Dr. Teresa Johnson-Hernandez Launches Campaign for Texas House, Joins Republican Party
Welcomed by Republican leaders across Texas and quickly approaching $100,000 cash-on-hand, Dr.
Johnson-Hernandez enters the race with momentum and a clear conservative message for South
Texas.
LAREDO, TX – Dr. Teresa Johnson-Hernandez, a respected South Texas businesswoman, faith
leader, and community advocate, today officially announced her campaign for Texas House District
42—and her decision to join the Republican Party. After a lifetime of service and decades of
Democratic control in South Texas, Dr. Johnson-Hernandez says the people of Laredo are ready for
real leadership rooted in faith, integrity, and conservative values.
“I didn’t leave the Democratic Party—the party left me,” said Dr. Johnson-Hernandez. “It abandoned
the faith, family, and freedom that built our community. I’m stepping up because the people of
Laredo deserve honest, next-generation leadership that puts them first—not radical agendas and
political games, said Johnson-Hernandez.”
A small business owner and healthcare provider alongside her husband Leonel, a U.S. Army veteran,
Dr. Johnson-Hernandez has spent nearly two decades expanding healthcare access and creating jobs
across South Texas. She holds a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies and has championed education, job
training, and community development throughout her career.
Now, she’s running to fix the failures of entrenched politicians who’ve held office for over 30 years
with little to show for it. While Laredo faces real challenges—from rising costs to broken
infrastructure—current “Do Nothing Democrat” Richard Raymond recently left the state during the
legislative special session to travel to Illinois for a photo-op with radical Governor JB Pritzker.
“We need a representative who shows up to work in Austin, not one who skips town to pander to the
far left,” said Johnson-Hernandez. “Laredo deserves leadership that’s grounded in service—not self promotion.”
Deeply grounded in her Christian faith, Dr. Johnson-Hernandez emphasized that her decision to run
was made after many prayers and conversations with family and community leaders.
“This campaign isn’t about politics—it’s about people. It’s about bringing faith, common sense, and
accountability back to Austin. I’m not a politician—I’m a servant, and I’m ready to fight for Laredo.”
Dr. Teresa Johnson-Hernandez will appear on the Republican primary ballot for Texas House District
42 in 2026.
